Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Reserve Park
The Rieti side of this famous park includes the Mountains called Monti della Laga, an area that has wild landscapes and primordial beauty. The entire Laga mountain group is fascinating: high woods, deep canyons, impetuous torrents and fresh springs. Wide panoramas can be enjoyed from the summits; a kingdom of snow and great silences.
The presence of legendary animals, such as the eagle and the wolf make the fauna of the Laga Mountains extremely interesting.
Between the day and nighttime birds of prey, the most frequently seen are the: buzzard, barn owl, the eagle owl and the owlet. Along the river and the torrents, where the trout and shrimp live, flies the dipper.
Only a part of the province of Rieti extends into the Reserve Park. Amatrice is included in the reserve park, a city that combines a perfect fusion of nature, art and good food.
There are as many as 22 excursions possible to take on these mountains, with all levels of difficulty. Don’t miss the paths that take you to the many waterfalls that spout forth in the woods: the Barche waterfalls, the waterfalls of Ortanza and the falls of Scalette. If you have a passion for hiking, don’t miss hiking Cima Lepri across the Cresta di Peschio Palombo.
